What is Social Justice?
Social justice refers to the fair treatment of all individuals within a society, ensuring that everyone, including minorities, has equal access to rights, opportunities, and resources. The concept goes beyond legal equality, addressing the equitable distribution of resources and opportunities among community members, especially those who have been historically marginalized. First recorded between 1825-1830, the term has evolved into a critical framework for movements that advocate for racial, economic, gender, and environmental justice. In essence, social justice seeks to create a society where all people can thrive with dignity and respect.
By promoting fairness and inclusivity, social justice challenges societal imbalances and strives to address disparities across race, gender, class, and other social categories. Through this lens, communities work towards dismantling systems of oppression and ensuring a more equitable future for everyone.
